D.M. Cumming, Blackhill

The third of the larger shipbuilders located on the canals in Glasgow, the others being Swan and Burrell.  Cummings built only one steam lighter, the Moonlight of 1871, although in total they built some 16 vessels between 1871 and 1917, including a number of ferries for the Clyde. 

The canal-side site of their yard finally disappeared when that stretch of the Monklands Canal was filled in as part of the M8 motorway project in the late 1960s.
