Built for John and Charles Robertson of Grangemouth. By 1870 sold on to William Anderson of Glasgow. Later sold by them to J. Hay of Kirkintilloch, in who's ownership Topaz foundered about 10 miles SE of Sanda.
The publication "Shipping Intelligence", LL, No. 20,635, published in London on Wednesday June 16 1880 states: " Greenock, June 15, 8.45 a.m., the master of the steam lighter GLASGOW, of Glasgow, arrived at Belfast from the Clyde, reports when about 10 miles westward of Sanda he fell in with a small boat, containing three of the crew of the steam lighter TOPAZ, of Glasgow. The boiler of the latter vessel had burst a short time previously, when Captain Arch. McDougall was blown overboard, and never afterwards seen. The remainder of the TOPAZ's crew took to the boat, and, as already stated, were picked up by the GLASGOW (s)."
