Built for a partnership of WIlliam Dick and Captain Cunningham:. By 1870 she is recorded in the ownership of William Wright of Robertson Street, Glasgow, as she is in her final entry of 1880..

A report in Lloyds List of April 8th 1881 records the sinking off the Maidens (Ayr) of the steam lighter "Argyle" the previous day. She was on passage from Belfast to Glasgow when her screw shaft broke. Her crew were all landed safely at Ayr.
